PAUSA DE DIOS
Joel 2:1-2, 12-17 (NVI)
1 Tocad trompeta en Sion; ¡Haz sonar la alarma en mi monte santo! ¡Tiemblen todos los habitantes de la tierra, porque el día del Señor viene, está cerca! 2 ¡Un día de oscuridad y de oscuridad, un día de nube y de espesa oscuridad! Como la oscuridad que se extiende sobre las montañas, llega un ejército grande y poderoso; nunca ha existido algo parecido desde la antigüedad, ni lo habrá después de ellos en los siglos venideros.
12 Pero ahora, dice el Señor, volved a mí con todo vuestro corazón, con ayuno, con llanto y con lamento; 13 rasguen vuestros corazones y no vuestros vestidos. Vuélvete al Señor, tu Dios, porque él es clemente y misericordioso, lento para la ira y grande en misericordia, y se apacigua en el castigo. 14 ¿Quién sabe si no se volverá y se arrepentirá, y dejará tras de sí bendición, ofrenda de cereal y libación para el Señor, su Dios? 15 Tocad trompeta en Sión; santificar un ayuno; convocar una asamblea solemne; 16reúna al pueblo. Santifica la congregación; reunir a los ancianos; Reúna a los niños, incluso a los que están al pecho. Que el novio salga de su aposento y la novia de su palio. 17 Entre el vestíbulo y el altar lloren los sacerdotes, ministros del Señor. Que digan: "Perdona a tu pueblo, oh Señor, y no hagas de tu herencia una burla, un escarnio entre las naciones. ¿Por qué se ha de decir entre los pueblos: '¿Dónde está su Dios?'"
*Devoción
¿Puedes creer que la Cuaresma ya casi está aquí? ¡El Miércoles de Ceniza es dentro de dos días! El Miércoles de Ceniza, tradicionalmente, recibimos la marca de ceniza en forma de cruz en la frente. Es un momento solemne, un reflejo y un símbolo de nuestro pecado, de nuestra necesidad de arrepentimiento y de la promesa del perdón de Dios. Al comienzo de la Cuaresma, a menudo pensamos en ayudar a la reflexión eliminando algo que nos impide ser las buenas personas que sabemos que debemos ser. En un momento de dejar ir, nuestra respuesta es arrepentirnos humildemente y pedir la misericordia y la bendición de Dios mientras buscamos un nuevo comienzo. En nuestra lectura de las Escrituras, el profeta Joel pide ese tiempo de arrepentimiento, llamando al pueblo a acciones externas que reflejen la actitud sincera de sus corazones. Él alienta esa respuesta recordándoles que su Dios es “clemente y misericordioso, lento para la ira y rico en amor constante”. Que esa confianza en un Dios misericordioso y misericordioso marque también nuestra reflexión y actitud durante la próxima Cuaresma.

Dios del arrepentimiento, escucha nuestros agravios y pecados derramados hacia ti a través de nuestras lágrimas y maneras humildes de pedir otra oportunidad. Escúchanos con tu disposición amorosa y por favor concédenos el perdón. Amén.

1 Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming, it is near- 2 a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness spread upon the mountains a great and powerful army comes; their like has never been from of old, nor will be again after them in ages to come.
12Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; 13rend your hearts and not your clothing. Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and relents from punishing. 14Who knows whether he will not turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, a grain offering and a drink offering for the Lord, your God? 15Blow the trumpet in Zion; sanctify a fast; call a solemn assembly; 16gather the people. Sanctify the congregation; assemble the aged; gather the children, even infants at the breast. Let the bridegroom leave his room, and the bride her canopy.17Between the vestibule and the altar let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep. Let them say, "Spare your people, O Lord, and do not make your heritage a mockery, a byword among the nations. Why should it be said among the peoples, 'Where is their God?'"
*Devotion
Can you believe that Lent is almost upon us? Ash Wednesday is in two days! On Ash Wednesday, traditionally, we receive the mark of ashes in the form of a cross on our foreheads. It’s a solemn time, a reflection and a symbol of our sin, of our need for repentance, and of the promise of God’s forgiveness. At the beginning of lent we often think of aiding reflection by cutting out something that is holding us back from being the good people we know we are meant to be. In a time of letting go our response is to humbly repent and ask for God’s mercy and blessing as we seek for a new beginning.In our scripture reading the prophet Joel calls for such a time of repentance, calling the people to outward actions that reflect the sincere attitude of their hearts. He encourages such a response by reminding them that their God is “gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.” May such a confidence in a gracious and merciful God also mark our reflection and attitude during the coming Lenten season.
*Prayer
God of repentance, listen to our grievances and sins poured out to you through our tears and humble ways of asking for another chance. Listen to us with your loving disposition, and please grant us forgiveness. Amen.
